Daredevil Biography and History
"Battling Jack" Murdock was a boxer well-past his prime. Jack wanted his son
Matt to do well in school, and to enjoy the peaceful life that he never had.
Matt abided, but secretly trained to defend himself from bullies who
nicknamed him "Daredevil". As a teenager growing up in Hell's Kitchen, New
York, Matt risked his life to save an old blind man who was nearly hit by a
truck hauling radioactive waste. Matt was blinded in the accident, but he
found that his other senses were greatly enhanced by the radioactive
material: His hearing became so sharp that he could hear any sound. His
sense of touch allowed him to read words formed by ink on paper. Matt also
discovered a 6th radar sense: he could detect the prescience of people and
objects, and their vicinity. To help Matt through law school, Jack
approached The Fixer who ran fixed fights. Things went wrong when Jack did
not lose his most important match as planned. He couldn't lose with Matt
watching him, and soon after, The Fixer had Jack killed. Matt was becoming a
successful as a lawyer, but he lost his faith in the justice system. Fueled
by rage from his father's death, Matt became "Daredevil". His goal? To bring
criminals like The Fixer to justice. Daredevil has always wielded his
signature weapon, a billy club that extends into a snare and grappling hook,
but did you know that he was not always a red devil? Until Daredevil No. 7,
he wore a yellow and black costume to honor his father.
